Christians In Public Service was founded on March 20, 2013, in Dallas, Texas, as a 501(c)(3) nondenominational nonprofit organization.
CIPS was founded by Dorothy Burton, former Mayor Pro Tem and City Council member in Duncanville, Texas.
The organization was launched with the involvement and support of public servants and civic leaders including Ron J. Anderson, M.D., CEO of Parkland Health and Hospital System; Oscar Trevino, Mayor of North Richland Hills; Ronald E. Jones, Mayor of Garland; Rob Franke, Mayor of Cedar Hill; Helen Roberts; David Dean, former Texas Secretary of State; and Dr. Larry Mercer.
From the beginning, the idea was simple: people who serve in public life need places where character, faith, wisdom, judgment, and responsibility can be taken seriously.
CIPS was created to encourage and equip those who serve, lead, and govern, while bringing together people across political differences around a deeper question: How do we lead well and serve people well?
That early vision has continued to grow.
Today, CIPS is rooted in the teachings of Jesus and focused on leadership formation, civic understanding, ethical public service, and helping people lead, serve, and participate in public life without losing their humanity.
CIPS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, nondenominational organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
